In 1992 this church made it to music history when it was burned down. Varg Vikernes, former bass player of Mahem, who burned down a chapel in Oslo and several other churches became the prime suspect. Burning churches was a tradition of (Satanic) Black Metal bands and fans at that time and since it's reconstruction in 1997 the church has become a pilgrimage site for Black Metal fans. Vikernes is serving a sentence of 21 years in jail now for murdering his friend and band mate Øystein Aarseth. He is opposed to Satanism now and has become a neo-Nazi. (Guys like that give paganism a bad name.) |
